5 Effective Ways To Overcome Writer’s Block

If you are running a business, writing a one off piece of copy or a press release could be easy. But sustained writing for your blog and marketing purposes can be a great challenge. Whether it is for work or personal purposes, lack of inspiration is the worst conundrum of any experienced writer. Just because you are a seasoned writer doesn’t make you vulnerable to writer’s block but there are ways to overcome it.

Here are some effective and proven ways to get out of the creative rut.

1. Change your environment or scenery

This pandemic got us all twisted and stressed over the uncertainties of life. We now have to work from home. As we say, “do not bring the problem to work and do not bring your work at home.” Touche, right? Apart from our will to live and get by, we have other social responsibilities like our company, employees, communities, and more. These things can add up to a chaotic environment that leads to mental and physical stress. If this arises, change your scenery. Have a walk. Bring your stuff to a cafe nearby.

This is why we say, “take a walk” or “have a vacation.” The science behind it says that when we are at a new place, it gives us more confidence to do better things. When we feel happy and relaxed, we naturally become more creative and optimistic. In a digital world, we call it “right click and hit the refresh button.”

2. Write down notes and ideas

Ideas don’t come right away. Even though you have tools like blog ideas generator, it’s still not enough. Interestingly, ideas pop-up out of nowhere; you could be inside the bathroom, at a cafe with friends, watching movies, or just listening to music! So when that happens, write them down and go back to them when you’re ready to write.

3. Timing and Fear

Most of the time, we are scared of deadlines and so we procrastinate. They say procrastination is good only if you already know where you are going. Otherwise, you’d be stuck. Therefore, be kind to your mind. If you feel that it is not the right time to write yet, then don’t. Creativity is a courageous move. Creative ideas might need a longer time to think about before writing them down. Additionally, fear of sharing your thoughts could also be a hindrance in writing. You fear that no one might find your articles relevant but hey, there’s still someone out there willing to learn more about your stories.

4. Consider reading other articles or books

Internet is free. And if you have books at home, read them! Do you love watching movies, go watch them. Whether it is fiction or classics, both retain great value despite the time they were written. Reading gives writers a new perspective and might motivate them to write again.

5. Change your attitude

There’s no such thing as a perfect writer. There are more impeccable writers than you, but to each his own. They have their own voice and yours is unique. They may learn from you, too. Writer’s block usually comes from burnout and stress, so take a break, if you can.
